As is the case with many of our couples who decide to celebrate their wedding at The Salix Yurts, Charles and Charlotte were looking for a venue which offered them something a little different. The Yurts are on of York’s most unique wedding venues and certainly ticked all of their boxes!

We didn’t want a traditional venue and wanted something a bit different. We could put our own stamp on the venue without too much work as it is already decorated really nicely. We pretty much just fell in love with it after the first viewing. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the price was right where we needed it to be”

With their dream wedding venue booked, they only gave themselves a fairly short space of time to start making arrangements for their wedding day. Not only did they have to plan a wedding, they also had the daunting task of moving house too. Luckily for them, plans went smoothly. With wedding suppliers being recommended and the venue offering a pretty stress free build up, although they did have to make sure they had all the finer details covered!

Remembering the small details, it was easy to remember the big things but the smaller bits could easily slip through the net. We also moved house a month before the wedding which was not ideal!”

The day before the wedding was a hive of activity. With a definite theme for the day, decorations began to be arranged and with finishing touches being added by Laura, the florist from Mint & Moose, the Yurts were soon transformed and looking amazing! Preparations over, everyone left to get a good nights sleep, ready for the big day.

“We wanted our wedding to be relaxed with a rustic feel and vibe. Laura was very friendly and very open to whatever we wanted. We didn’t have lots of flowers which she was fine with but the flowers she did create where beautiful”

The wedding day arrived and although it might have been a drizzly start, a little rain was not going to dampen their spirits! With the ceremony being held at York Registry Office, the happy couple arrived at the Yurts in style, courtesy of Limelight Wedding Cars. Charlotte and Charles turned up in a lovely vintage Morris Minor which made for some brilliant wedding photographs with the couple.

“Lovely car (Morris minor) and nice little touches like a really friendly driver and champagne on the way to the venue”

With guests arriving shortly after, they enjoyed some welcome fizz and were greeted by a veritable feast of food which was provided by Charles’ father who was lucky enough to be a chef! The show stopper was definitely the Pork Pie wedding cake and the surprise wedding cake which was kindly baked by one of the couple’s friends!

Once everyone had enjoyed the delicious food, it was time to prepare for the entertainment. For many couples, finding the right musician or band can be hard but luckily for Charles & Charlotte, this was easy! Flat Cap Carnival are a York based band, who bring together a fusion of Ska and Latin music and Charles was a band member! Lights were dimmed and the band immediately created one of the best atmospheres we have had at a Yurts wedding! Guests loved the music and even Charles & Charlotte made guests appearances!

“Charles, It’s been an absolute pleasure gigging and writing with you so far mate and we’re all so happy that you’re marrying the love of your life!!

Charlotte, thank you so much for all the support you give the band and for knowing all the lyrics much better than Lee does.

Love you both very much and have an amazing day, you both deserve it”

With the first set done, everyone was ready for more food. This was provided by Nicola from Two Jays Catering. Now normally a hog roast would be prepared and served outside but due to the rain, plans had to change. With some quick thinking by Nicola, the Hog was brought inside and guests could stay dry as they enjoyed their hog roast sandwiches!

“2 Jay’s Catering, very efficient and happy to help, the food was great and the price was right too”

The rest of the night continued as the day started. Charlotte and Charles enjoyed great music, being surrounded by all of their close friends and family, as well as indulging in lots of drinks. Charlotte, who enjoyed her fair share of cocktails, even found herself behind the bar and shaking up some up!

“The bar staff got Charlotte behind the bar to help make her cocktail, also having us both up playing with the band. Another great thing though was not having to worry about anything, all the staff just got on with it”

All of Charlotte and Charles’ memories were captured by the very friendly and professional Steven Eric Parker Photography who did a stirling job despite the rain. He certainly captured the vibe of the day perfectly in the shots he took.

“Steven Eric Parker Photography: incredible from the word go, put us at ease and blended into the wedding great. He did exactly what we wanted which was plenty of photos but not taking up loads of the day posing and organising people. The final pictures we got where also fantastic and we received them in good time”

Before we finish this blog, we wanted to ask Charlotte and Charles a few quickfire questions!

Describe newlywed life in 3 words

 “Wonderful new chapter”

Any advice for anyone planning a wedding?

“Make a spreadsheet! Don’t try to please everyone, as long as it’s what you and your other half want that’s all that matters”

Just a short summary of how you found Louisianna’s Weddings as your venue provider

“Exactly what we wanted. They were very happy to accommodate all out requests. They were always on hand to answer questions and provide help. The bar service was great with just the right amount of selection and the bespoke cocktail menu was a really nice touch. All the guests commented on how great the venue was and how spacious it was for the size of the yurts. All in all a fantastic venue that’s a little bit different”
